Computer Armoires – 6 Things You Need to Know About Them

Whether you work from home, or you just need an organized spot to write your term papers, computer armoires are a great tool.  With them, you can keep everything organized and clutter-free.

What exactly is a computer armoire?

It is a piece of furniture that can hold your monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, and printer.  The bigger computer armoires come with drawers and sliding shelves, so that you have a place to store your important papers, books, phone, or anything else you would keep on a traditional desk.  There are even computer armoires with file drawers attached to them!

But the thing that really sets them apart is their doors.  Virtually all of them come with doors that can cover your workstation up whenever you don’t want to look at it.  That way, at the end of the day, your work really can be out of sight and out of mind!  And, once your doors are closed, your computer armoire looks no different than any other piece of furniture.

So, what do you need to know before you buy one?

Computer Armoire1. They come in a variety of colors

Most computer armoires are made out of some sort of wood.  In fact, you can get one that’s made out of durable maple, oak, or even cherry wood.  You can even get unfinished computer armoires for a more casual look.  Or, if wood isn’t your thing, you can get either black or white computer armoires.

Either way, it’s easy to find an armoire that fits in with the rest of your décor.

2.  They come in a variety of sizes

If you don’t have much room, that’s OK; there are tons of computer armoires for small spaces.  Some of these compact computer armoires, though, don’t have doors.  However, that can actually be a good thing, if you don’t physically have enough room to swing doors open and shut.

There are also corner computer armoires that can be tucked into virtually any nook or cranny.

No matter what kind of room you’re dealing with, you can find computer armoire furniture that suits your needs.

3. They come with a variety of doors

Some come with doors that open up straight out at 90 degrees.  Others feature doors that open out and swing to the side (also called “180 degree doors”).  Others have “wrap-around doors” that open, slide to the side, then slide back.  And others come with “pocket doors” that open up straight out, then slide back out of the way.
4.  They will cover up your cords

Love your computer, but hate the tangled mess of cords it creates?  With a computer armoire, there are built-in spaces for your cords.  That way, all of the cords will be tucked behind your workspace – instead of cluttering up your office.

5.  They are great for home offices

Many times, home offices also double as guest rooms.  If you’re sick of having to clean up your desk every time a guest comes for the weekend, get a computer armoire.  With one, you don’t have to clean up anything; all you have to do is shut the doors!

Plus, these armoires are also great space-savers.  They can give you all of the work space you need, without taking up a bunch of physical space – something that can be a lifesaver in a small home office.

6.  They still need some room, though

Sure, they save space, but computer armoires do require some space.  Since they look so stylish when they’re closed up, it can be tempting to think of them as decorative furniture, but you have to remember that yours will be used as a work station.  Make sure there’s enough room to sit comfortably in front of it, and, if you can, don’t put it right in the main thoroughfare of your home.
